Dornbirn, the largest city in Vorarlberg, offers a great selection of leisure activities.
Although Dornbirn is a relatively new city, it boasts the largest population in Vorarlberg. People often think of Dornbirn as the city of trade fairs and a shopping Mecca.
But it also boasts a colourful nightlife, and a wide selection of bars and clubs awaits the visitor. A special appreciation for architecture is also much in evidence in Dornbirn and its surrounding area, examples of which cannot fail to leave a lasting impression.
Dornbirn's central location makes it an excellent base for activities in the surrounding region. Lake Constance is a mere hop, skip and a jump away; as are Switzerland, the Principality of Liechtenstein and parts of south-west Germany.
Dornbirn is situated on the edge of the Eastern Alps, and can thus boast a few mountain peaks of its own. The Karren peak (976m) is the "local" mountain with a connecting cable car service; the Staufen (1,465m), the Mörzelspitze and the Hohe Freschen all offer mountain walks with breathtaking views.
Dornbirn also offers a wide variety of sporting and leisure activities. In addition to sporting facilities such as tennis, badminton, ice hockey and basketball, there are swimming pools such as the Stadtbad and in summer the leafy Waldbad Enz.
From a cultural viewpoint Dornbirn has the Kulturhaus, an impressive cultural venue featuring a wide selection of performances and concerts of all kinds. In addition the Spielboden and the Conrad Sohm also offer fascinating evening entertainment for the discerning visitor.
